When it comes to lifeboats there are two questions to consider: Are there enough, and will room be made for everyone to get in? In a country with such great diversity and so many voices it is difficult at times to make room for all the ideas. But just as in a lifeboat we understand that we are all in this together; in our greater humanity we understand room must be made.
I see the stage as a lifeboat. Every person is a story, and in that story is a hero. The telling of that story inspires us to reflect on our own experience and see our own potential to effect the world around us for better or worse and to measure such an effect. I believe the stage is a forum where every story can be heard and given an opportunity to be the focus. I believe every culture that makes up our community should get a turn on stage, presenting their point of view, and such a practice will edify us all. That is why I hope to establish the Lifeboat Theatre Company, I believe there is room if we make it.
Frequency is a catalyst to mastery. So I want to create a theatre that has more productions in a regular season. That is accomplished by writing in-house and presenting shorter plays; one acts or a series of ten minute plays. The frequency of production will create opportunities to tell more stories and help performers experiment and develop this art form in our area. And with a skilled company there is a greater ability to respond to current events that directly effect the lives in our community.
To do this we need the support of business and the community. We are skilled and ready to do the work. If you would be interested in joining the company or would like to become a supporter please reach out via the contact page. I would love to sit down with you and see what ways you can join in developing art in our community.
